Is there a certain zombie book or short story that blew you away? I have read some cool stories on this site so what are you guys reading to inspire you? I love most all zombie novels. Even the crappy heavily flawed self published stuff. Tell me!

LUCKY DUCK! I wish I could go back and The Rising series for the first time again. Keene has several other great books that are not zombie related, but yet all of his stories are related one way or another. I am very excited to have a member on here checking out Brian Keene. I have a nice collection of his rare hardbacks. Not nearly as cool as some of the pics on his forum that other fans have submitted of their collection though. Make mine look stupid. I have a really swell Tim Lebbon and Simon Clark hardback collection also. I will try take some pics. I have a fuckin huge Mike Patton collection if anybody cares. Nobody ever does though. Anywhere.

Just finished The Rising last night. Very cool book! Picked up City of the Dead and Dead Sea this evening. The Rising was my first Brian Keene book. You'd be guessing right if you're guessing I enjoyed it.

Others that I've enjoyed: Dead City, The Headshot Quartet, Monster Island (haven't read the sequels yet), several others with titles that aren't coming to me at the moment.

I finished reading "The Dead Walk Diaries: Night" by Joe Young yesterday and it was surprisingly good. It was full of errors and wasn't edited great, but I really enjoyed the stories. As of writing this I know nothing about Joe Young, but I will surely read any sequels to his book. Kind of like WWZ meets Day by Day is my best description. It is short and simple and somewhat violent and grim. I would suggest this for the casual reader. I think it was just under 200 pages. Romero style zombies in these stories.

I really should check that out. I have always heard it is good and crushes the movie of course. I am reading Urban Gothic by Brian Keene and it is extremely graphic and brutal. More like Hills Have Eyes raping the hell out of a haunted house. Sick stuff!

I finished Strain and it is the second best vampire book I have read to date. Vampirrhic by Simon Clark is the best I think. Blow off his sequel though.

From Permuted Press- DYING TO LIVE 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Great news... Permuted Press has signed author Kim Paffenroth to deliver a third entry in his Dying to Live series!

Kim says of the next installment "Four characters from Dying to Live: Life Sentence are back in the third installment, which returns us to a land of smart zombies and bad humans. Only three will remain by the end."

Kim has promised to kick the action up to a new level in the next book, we can't wait to see what he comes up with!"

SO IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST 2 BOOKS THEN YOU STILL HAVE TIME PEOPLE BEFORE THIS COMES OUT! THEY ARE SO GOOD!

Most zombie movies are dumb. Some of my favorites are "Fido" (which fuckin rules), Dawn of the Dead(both of course), 28 whatever later, Shaun of the Dead(cause I'm a stoner), Dead Alive(should have been higher in list), more that I can't remember right now.
Not sound lame, but the book Eden had me sobbing like a baby. It is great! I have the first edition so I do not know how differently edited the Permuted Press version is. But that is my favorite book publisher. I have a few more I will list tomorrow when I can see straight.
You must avoid all the weird new zombie tie ins with classics like "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance - Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!" They are just to silly.

Yea Scatoma thanks. I'm definitely going to check out "Eden" and "the Rising"...any more reco's I'd be happy to read..there's definitely better Zombie literature than there are Zombie movies...I just watched Bio-Zombie a few hours ago..I thought it sucked..hong-kong slap stick cheese fest. I mean if you like almost funny never scary Zombie movies with shitty effects then you might dig it..I hate the "Zombie who loved the girl when he was alive so now he protects her" spin so much..I've seen it in two or three movies now..Zombies are Zombies..I hate it when people try to fuck with that.

Hell yes the Monster trilogy was fantastic! Has anybody read any of Wellingtons vampire stuff? I haven't but I think I should. I am reading "Strain" right now by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan and so far is really cool. I guess it is vampires. Not sure yet.

Del Toro is turning this book called "Hater" by David Moody into a movie. It was a cool book where everybody goes nuts 28 Days Later style. He also made Blade 2, Hellboy 1 and 2, and Pan's Labrynth. Should be good and brutal.

I have been eyeballing John Dies at the End. Let me know what you think. I have not read Every Sigh... but I have been meaning to. Day by Day was really good I thought. You MUST read "Eden" and "The Rising." You will be very happy I promise. Patient Zero was really badass also. Lots of good mma fighting and zombies. I have many more suggestions if you are interested.

No sorry, there aren't any Zombies in "John dies at the end".
