STANDARD ISSUE WEAPONS. WHAT SHOULD THEY BE?

i chose these firearms not because of brand name but because of common caliber, ease of repair, availability and ease of customization. for instance....

 

1) AK47 - when it comes to repair, reliability, ammo availability and custumizing. the AK47 has it all in hand. there are so many stock options, tactical add ons, and mag capacity ranges for this weapon that a person can make this rifle into their dream gun with ease before Z-Day. when it comes to repair. if you have a decent tool box of standard tools, you have all you need to fix most any malfunction that should ever happen. the ammo can be found in any gun shop, Walmart, Meijor, or other type store all over the USA. and is so reliable that malfunctions are far and few between, never jams, and will digest any 7.62x39 ammo you put in it.

 

2) SPRINGFIELD ARMORY XD9 - this pistol is becoming the most commonly found pistol in all america. most law enforcement officers are going to this pistol. the polished feed ramp allows for this handgun to digest any 9mm round made from semi wad cutters to FMJ's (full metal jackets). high cap mags range from ten to 32 round magazines. is easy to take down and reassamble in seconds. and has not only the GLOCK trigger safety but the grip backstrap safety that a Colt 1911 has making this one of the safest handguns to carry because it will never accidentally discharge without both safety devices engauged. in otherwords, it has to be in your hand in the "ready" position in order to shoot. also another reason i chose this weapon is because when you buy it, it comes with all you need to carry it. holster, magazine pouches and even a magazine loader.

 

3) Mossberg M590 Military/Police Shotgun - this shotgun is not only current issue with the U.S. Military but police forces all around over the USA. along with the availability of the 12 gauge ammo and the shotgun itself. but like the AK47 is easy to repair and customize. and like the AK47, it has the option of the US M7 or M9 bayonet. NOTE: when it comes to spring problems. all pump shotguns tend to have this trouble sooner or later. the key to avoiding this is to not store it fully loaded. two or three shells tops in a five shot tube and three to four rounds in an eight shot tube. this allows you to store a shotgun with shells in the tube but not the tension on the tube spring.

 

4) THE HENRY AR7 EXPLORER RIFLE -  this rifle being in .22 caliber can be a real life saver. when not in use, it breaks down and stores in the stock of the rifle. that the whole rifle. barrel, frame and both seven round magazines. this rifle has very few working parts making it real easy to repair and even make improvised parts for. uses anything from sub sonics to high velocity ammo. and the ammo is also very easy to aquire.

 

i am not saying that all komradz HAVE to get the same firearms. but when Z-Day hits. if we all did have the same or at least simmilar firearms. it would make scouring the abandoned cities and towns for ammo a lot easier and safer because then all we have to do is grab on site instead of grabbing everything and having a bunch of ammo we cant use or even trade off later to other survivors.

what kind of problems is Kyle having with his Mossberg? maybe i can help? i also want point out that i never said we all had to have the same guns but similar. what i listed were but my suggestions. which leaves things open to the use of weapons like the Ruger Mini 30 rifle. also the one thing about 9mm ammo. as soon as places like Walmart gets it. they tend to sell out as fast as they get it just like the 7.62x39 ammo does. i got a buddy who works the sporting goods department. the Walmart here gets the calibers like you and i mentioned all the time. it just sells out as fast as it hits. the best thing i can suggest is to get in tight with a few that work at the Walmart near you. then they will let you in on the real times they get that stuff and you can clean up like crazy. before i got my FFL, that is what i did. and before i forget. the North Hollywood shootout did have AK47's in it. but they all had body armor on. even the robbers. while the .223's didnt punch through, the 7.62x39's did. and yes, the men on the police force were hurt and a few almost died. but what kept the injuries down was because the armor slowed the round down some. not all the way, but some. the thing that people need to keep in mind is that most police body armor will stop most rounds from .22 to .223 rounds. even 12 gauge if its not a slug but say like 00 buck. but anything bigger in the rifle range then a .223, the vest wont stop it. and it was not police bullets that killed the last gun man. he shot himself with his own 9mm handgun. the second gun man was killed by a police bullet if i recall. but only because the kevlar body armor patches they sewed together had a weak point and the police were lucky enough to hit it by accident.

i must have watched a different video. reason being the one i saw. the guys each had AK47's with drum mags in them. the police had everyone from SWAT to even the help of armored car drivers to get the wounded out and there were several cops wounded, a few killed.

The AK/AR debate continues, but I think that since they are both common weapons, useing common rounds, either would work for a Komrad. Both types of ammo are fairly accesable. (at least in my AO) If a Komrad unit had a mix of both weapons and a small amout of 5.56 ammo was found it would benefit those using the ARs, if 7.62 would be found it would go to to the Ak's. But if everyone is carrying AKs and you run into a police cache of 5.56 (since they usualy use  ARs over AKs) (or even US military caches) that 5.56 ammo would be useless to us AK people, unless it could be traded later on for the correct ammo. Is this a pefect solution to try and diversify your weapons/ammo, no, but it may work out in the long run.

it is advised that even if you cannot afford a rifle/handgun/shotgun or have no means of obtaining one, that you buy multiple boxes of several popular kalibers for all those listed-in the event that you involuntary "inherit" a used weapon you may find yourself already at hand with at least enough shells to finish the job the previous owner failed to do...

when it comes to Kyles Mossberg. it sounds to me that there is a burr or something to the sort on the follower that is digging into the tube. i will see what i can find in my tech manuals on taking down a Mossberg tube mag on a shotgun. what will help me is if i know exactly what model his is. can you find out or do you already know?

okay. i got a look at the picture of Kyles shotgun.  here is what he will need to do.

 

1) remove the barrel

2) pull the slide to the forward position

3) pad the tube mag or the jaws of a pair of pliers and apply the pliers to the top of the tube mag

4) with tube mag and pliers padded. unscrew the tube from the frame

 

be careful not to lose grip of the tube otherwise your parts will fly everywhere. when the tube is separated from the frame, examine the shell follower for any burrs or anything that can dig into the tube. if any burrs are found, use an exacto knife or a utility knife blade to shave the effected area till smooth. this should solve the problem of the tube follower hanging up in the tube.

it still sounds like a burr to me. if it is only happening in the empty position. then with time it should work out on its own. if it persists more and more often, it wouldn't hurt to do the steps i outlined and check out the follower for burrs and smooth it out some with a sharp knife or just replace the follower all together. they only cost a couple of dollars and if you get hold of the right company rep on the phone. you might just get it for free.
