Show and Tell (this is flash fiction)

"Today is show and tell class,

I hope you remembered to bring your things to share."

Said the beautiful Latin Mrs. Perez.

His father had a crush on her ever since his son had been moved

from the older black woman's class...

Molly approached the front of the room with a cook book.

"My daddy used to love this recipe for New England clam chowder...

But that was when I was little... And now...

Mommy and me like to make this Chicken Noodle Soup

when we feel sad about Daddy leaving."

The boy felt a little empathy.

As much as a young man could enter

into another's feelings

at the age of 7.

Bobby brought a baseball bat.

The principal almost confiscated it,

but his mother explained how much

it meant to be able to show off this bat today.

Bobby had to leave the bat at the teacher's desk.

The other boy once left a knife with Mrs. Perez.

He'd left it in his pocket after his father

gave it to him on his birthday.

Bobby brought the baseball bat to the front of the room.

He pointed it out at the boy and took a swing.

The boy had frozen with fear that maybe Bobby didn't like him

and decided to throw the bat like his father had at his mother.

Now the boy went up next.

He stood there and told the class

he'd brought himself for show and tell.

That he came from the stork,

who found him at the baby factory.

Nathalie told him he'd come from god.

Nathan told him he'd come from his mother's vagina.

Mrs. Perez told the class to be silent and let the boy continue...

Then he pulled out his cap gun,

And filled the room with smoke

and disappeared.
