Z-Day (Ultimate April Fools' Prank) 4/1/13
Attention Komrades and Zombies alike:
Some of you may know that the timeline in the first book of my zombie apocalypse series (Voyage of the Dead) begins on April 1 - referred to as "Z-Day". Last year some of my fans held a spontaneous "Z-Day Simulation" on Goodreads.com. This year I want to create the ultimate April Fools' Day Prank with flash zombie mobs across the nation! Are you game?
As with any zombie outbreak, the greatest effect will be achieved by stealth, shock and awe. Numerous simultaneous outbreaks will put Z-Day into the history books. Therefore, I would like to mobilize the ranks of Wicked Zombies for Z-Day flash mobs on April 1st, 2013. I'll also be coordinating with the organizers of Zombie Walk groups in numerous cities.
The key to this "prank" is that at least one member of each group will video the "outbreak" on their cell phone and email it to cable news networks. If this goes as planned, it could get national media coverage and establish April 1 as international Z-Day. Let me know what you think of the idea.

Just spread the idea to other Komrads and pass the idea by your friends. Then let me know what city you are in or closest to. I'll try to coordinate with with "zombie walk" organizers in several cities.

I love the idea. If large groups were staged with people on-hand to help with makeup, etc. for those not as polished at it as others, etc., then this could really be pretty awesome and get some unsure of their Zombie skills involved!!

I'll be happy to help you organize that, Tex. Where are you? As in a real apocalypse, each group will be on their own. However, there will be online support and some public safety ground rules that each group should abide by.

This would be a great idea. Only problem is, here in my neck of the woods, I'm afraid someone would screw up and shoot someone. I can see the news and headlines now, "Redneck fooled by fake zombies, zombie killing spree at 10 o'clock." (LOL)

i would like to get those in my state involved. but my CLEO (Chief Law Enforcement Officer) tends to frown on the whole FLASH MOB thing and has in the past ordered that those involved be arrested. reason being that there were some that took it to the extreme and a few of the flash mob people got hurt when the whole flash mob thing was popular. one even killed because they executed the whole thing wrong and that person got hit by a semi truck. that does not mean its the same all over in the state i live in though. so i will do some digging around and see what shakes loose.

Yes, public safety would be the number one concern. There are actually two law enforcement officers (who are also zombie authors) helping me organize this and set ground rules. We feel it would be important to contact mall security and local police immediately before the "events" take place (to avoid misunderstandings). All participants would also be instructed not to make any aggressive moves towards by-standers and to comply with any instructions to halt, if law enforcement did intervene. Local organizers of each flash mob would be responsible for conveying these instructions to all participants. It might even be wise to start each event with a megaphone saying, "You are about to witness an April Fools Day prank. Please act scared, but you are in no real danger." LOL

when you get these ground rules set in stone. please post them so that we can run them off. this would help immensely for organization and local laws.
