If you've been reading my blog, you see all of the suggestions,
bug out bag and survival supply ideas, and information on
bugging out and I hope that it helps in your quest to be prepared
for anything.

One issue that some preppers run into is having enough funds
readily available to use as a resource when starting and
maintaining their bug out bag and/or survival supplies.

Believe me--I know how costly prepping can be--especially if you
want supplies that are long-lasting and durable.

Here are 5 Ways That I have found to fund my bug out bag and
survival supplies:

1. Sell stuff on eBay and/or Craigslist.
If you have old memorabilia, old school text books, clothing that
you cannot wear anymore etc. eBay and Craigslist are the quickest
and easiest ways to sell them. I have found that you will usually
make more money on eBay or Craigslist vs. going to your local
pawn shop or resale shop.

2. For QUICKER cash sell items at your Pawn Shop.
Though you may make less money than selling online, your local
Pawn Shop is the quickest way to get cash in hand to buy your .
prepping supplies.

3. Collect your change.
Most of us throw change everywhere; our nightstands, in the center
console of our cars/trucks, junk drawers in our home, the kitchen,
and in the sofa. Get a jar and dedicate that jar to loose change.
Another GREAT idea is to put any change that you get from the store
into this jar-for example, if you pay $20.00 cash at a restaurant
for a bill that is $19.05--take the change ($0.95) and add it to
your "survival change jar" or whatever you want to call it. You
could easily save a few hundred dollars in a few months this way.

4. Recycle Scrap Metal.
I have a friend who made an easy $400 from bringing scrap metal in
to our local salvage yard--that could buy a lot of supplies!
Good LEGAL ways to find scrap metal are:
bringing in old copper pipes from your home if remodeling,
checking your neighborhood for discarded metal objects, dumpster
diving (for you adventurous ones out there), and you could always
ask small local businesses that work with metal/iron
(like gate builders/iron works companies)if they have any scrap
metal that you could have (it never hurts to ask--asking helped me)

5. Save up in a checking or savings account dedicated to your
survival fund.
I wrote an article on the Quick Way that I added $50 to my survival
fund by opening an online account with $1.00. This deal is still
going on with Capital One 360 and it could easily add the first
$50 that you need to get started. All of the proceeds from the
online sales, pawn shop money, change that you find, and scrap
metal that you recycle can be put here to earn interest until you
are ready to purchase supplies with it.

Read here about opening the account with $1 and getting $50:

Well for those of you who need help funding your bug out bag and
survival supplies I hope that this at least guides you and makes
you think of ways to fund your survival stash of items.

Thanks for reading!

I think one of the biggest challenges in prepping is having the money to do it.  Some might disagree, but it's sort of like saving for an insurance policy.  A bug out bag is a little insurance policy.

there is another way that it can be done to by using a Walmart Debit Card. it works just like the blue Walmart Pre Paid Visa card except it has the following options.

  • FREE Rapid Reload® at Walmart
  • Add a picture to your personalized card at no additional charge
  • Pay bills with Online Bill Pay Service
  • Use it for purchases everywhere Debit MasterCard® or Visa debit cards are accepted
  • Send money online to friends and family in the U.S., with no charge to the sender or the recipient.
  • Put money aside for a rainy day or a specific goal with Online Vault

with the online vault. you can go online and set aside small amounts each time you have it loaded be it at the courtesy counter or checkout lane of Walmart or direct deposit of any payroll or government checks like tax refunds or social security checks. then when you feel you have what you need in the online vault. simply log into your account and have the money transferred from the vault back to the card for use. no credit checks or anything.

cool list and sorry i didn't post yesterday my internet and cable was down. apparently do to some faulty power wires coming into my house my cable got fried. literally shit looked like it was struck by lightning. completely burned out but I'm back up and running now.

sounds like my dish last summer. i went away to pay the bills one day. as i got back home it started raining. well just as i got to hwere you could see the dish on the side of the roof. the whole dish makes an ear deafening BOOM and a ball of fiery sparks about 10 foot in diameter. i got on the phone and got a tech guy out the next day. come to find out the man who installed it didnt insulate a vital connection and left it open to the elements. he was surprised it didnt happen sooner with all the rain we had. guess that one magic rain drop was all that was needed. lol. but the explosion was so cool.

To bad you didn't get it on video...Would be a cool effect to a movie...(LOL)

thinking about it. your right. lol

lol

if it happened on the 4th of July. it would have been the best fireworks display in the county. a one show event. but the best. LMAO!!!

Wife and me were out during an electrical storm one year and if I would have had a camera that night it would have been one hell of a video...(L) But of course, at that time, video recorders were like $150 to 400 bucks...(LOL) A lightening bolt hit a transform on a power pole and we watched it explode into a shower of raining sparks...But the explosion was loud enough to actually shake the car we were driving in and the light from it lit the road for about 2 miles...(L) So I know somewhat of what you may have saw...And it would have been cool to have seen....(L)

one year when i was working at a plastics plant. we had a thunderstorm watch turn into lightning storm warning. it was only ten minutes after the warning hit the radio that the lightning hit the power transformer to the shop. it blew so hard that the shop shook to the foundations and went dark. that was the closest i ever been to a lightning hit and let me tell ya. being i do my own laundry. it showed me just how bad it scared me that day. i actually thought the shop was exploding. i mean Hershey marks from hell bro. and no, i am not to proud to admit that this rhino shit his pants when the explosion hit. lol. normally i was the last one to report in. but that day i was the first one out and shaking my pant leg the whole way. i even made me a door in the process. one shaped like ME! LMAO!!!

Damn it boy...(LOL)

you would shit your draws to if the transformer that was hit was less then 20 feet away. lol. and i have NO shame in saying so. lol. that was the closest thing to having a hand grenade go off right beside you.
