YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!

April 15 2009

6:05am

I woke up around 5:45 this morning, got woke up by the emergency broadcast on the T.V. again. That loud, eerie beep followed by a loud obnoxious buzzing type noise got me out of bed on my feet. I've been very jumpy since these broadcasts randomly started popping up, exclaiming on a green screen "This is an emergency broadcast for your area. This is not a drill.", interrupting all programs for long periods of time with no explanation of why anyone should be in a state of emergency. But upon being woken up ever so abruptly for the fourth day in a row, they finally addressed the people on the current situation.
"We advise everyone to stay inside your houses, lock your doors and bar your windows. If doing so is not possible, please direct yourselves to the closest of the safe areas listed below."
With that the t.v. cut back into the emergency broadcast, the same green screen with the familiar "This is an emergency broadcast for your area. This is not a drill."
I'm 15 years old, I live in a rural New Jersey town, and I'm being told by my government to lock and barricade my door for reasons I didn't know. I'm going outside to check things out.

6:50am

Something definatly is wrong here. The very second I opened by door, my small dog Maggie darted through the kitchen gate and leaped out of the door. Not giving anything else a thought, I ran out on my lawn, in my boxers, in pursuit of my small black dog. As I rounded onto the road, I almost got hit by a large Chevy truck going way too fast for being in a residential neighborhood road. Through the corner of my eye I could see my neighbors nailing sheets of plywood and slabs of 2X4s over their windows and the crazy drunk a few doors down was welding his door shut from the outside.
But I kept on running despite the scene around me, and my dog was slowly vanishing from my sight. It reminded me why I shouldn't have stopped going to the gym after school. After calling her name for the God-knowsth-time I fell flat on my face from exhaustion. I stood up and looked down the road, not seeing my dog. So I gave up and came right back inside.
What could have triggered her to do this? She hates being outside, and suddenly she takes off out o sight. What the hell is going on?

8:36am

23 bottles of water
5 cans of ravioli
4 packets of Easy Mac
2 cans of string beans
2 cans of cream corn
1 can of beans

I took inventory of foods that do not go stale after time. The rest of my food will go bad through the duration of whatever's happening. During my counting of waterbottles in the garage I found a large hard plastic case. Upon opening it, I found a very old shotgun that belongs to my step dad. I'm not exactly sure what it is, the name wore away. It's pretty much a piece of shit due to the fact that I can only fire one shot at a time, but hell, it offers some sort of protection from whatever, IF I could find the damned shells for it. Theres only one in it. I'll have to somehow take it apart and clean it later. It looks like it's only being held in by a bobby pin and bubble gum anyway. I also found a certain knife I've been looking for that belonged to my grandpa during Vietnam. It's in perfect condition and comes with a brown sheath with a belt loop. I just finished adding it to my completely origional Rasta colored belt. I'm off to the basement to grab the rest of the supplies I will need. I will also keep an eye out for the ammunition I might have use for. I just can't be too safe right now.
