YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!

Today in class, we were studying embryology, and at one point the lecturer mentioned that when a woman has a child after the age of 40, it's very likely that the child would be born with Down syndrome. Now this is a genetic disorder, caused by changes in number of chromosomes. Basically, it's a mutation, and it causes physical abnormalities. My hypothesis for today is that zombification can be caused by genetic mutation, much like Down syndrome or sickle cell anaemia. What if there is a mutation- a change in the DNA sequence or number of chromosomes- that brings about physical and mental features in persons, later on in their life, which would allow us to classify them as "zombies"? It is a very vague idea, I must admit, because of a few glitches: factors that may cause such a mutation, like radiation or disease, and how these could bring about such a drastic genetic anomaly. Also, most babies born with serious genetic disorders die very early in life (a few days, or weeks maybe), and even if they do survive, in a case like this, zombification would not be contagious.

Ok, ok, I just sat back for a minutes and analysed this, and I came up with something else. Now, scientists have found that genes could be "switched on or off". We would need an external factor to bring about that change spontaneously, so perhaps radiation of a high degree. there would be that single gene that, when switched on, would cause zombie-like features. Or maybe if a gene was to be switched off. That's possible, right?

I don't know, I'm typing these things right off the top of my head. I have a headache right now anyway.

hmmm ok..... omg so im guessing that when the Egyptians spoke of mummy's curses and stuff, they were actually referring to zombification, cuz most of the time the curses had something to do with the "dead returning from the Underworld" etc. and what about people from other parts of the world?

i think they did. i know they say that the Egyptians only did this with their royalty. but archeologists have found mummies that were not of royal lineage that had the same thing done. vital organs removed and the brain pulled out by a hook up the nose. i think that they had a few come back from the dead and had to deal with them accordingly. and i am not the only one with this theory. Max Brooks wrote a book that is more like a comic book. but the events in it can actually be found on the internet. its called THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATTACKS. despite it being done like a comic book. it does make for a good read.

ahhhh so the Egyptians knew something...... so maybe we need to look into the religious beliefs of ancient Egypt (the parts that regular people dont know and that they didnt show in The Mummy Returns)

you wanna hear a scary thought? i got it just now thinking about something. remember when i told you that religious material has foretold a reunion between the living and the dead? it brought to mind the Egyptians. just WHY exactly did they remove things like the internal organs and the brain? i mean would you not NEED these things in the next world in their proper place and not in some jar? if the dead has not risen before. then why the need to remove the brain? some of many questions i tend to ask myself as i lay in bed at night.

you know, this all makes so much sense that now even my own hypotheses are beginning to scare me a bit...

possible Komrad. i mean look at what Jenner said to rick before the CDC went up in smoke. "We are all infected" he said. now with all the contaminants in our environment. and the radiation from nuclear reactors like Chernobyl and the holes in the ozone. i think its very possible that no matter how we go. as long as the brain is in one piece. then when the dead rise. it could be the fate for all who die to rise again unless the brain is destroyed just after death. and its a known fact that some of these pollutants can effect a person on a genetic level. so it IS possible that we all could be predisposed to be a zombie after death. something i have thought a bit on myself.

Are you suggesting that zombism is a condition we are predisposed to become?

When I heard 'genetic anomalys', I instantly thought of Left 4 Dead stuff.

exactly, oh u couldnt have said it better. thats kinda what i was thinking. but even thoguh we say all this, ultimately, i really dont want this apocalypse to happen...

that is a possibility i have not ruled out totally. i figure there are gonna be some out there that looks at this as a passing fad. some that are not sure. and some like us that truly believe. in the end. i think that we are in the minority though when it comes down to it though. all we can do is present what we find. what we theorize. and what we discover. then whatever they chose to do is on them. all we can do is try and keep on trying. and when the dead do rise. that is when we will find out for sure who is who and both our hands and our conscience is clean.
