YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE...MAYBE TWICE!

I LOVE Dawn of the Dead! It is absolutely one of the best films ever made. A genuine masterpiece! But in the end, I prefer the incredibly raw and grim power of Day of the Dead. Romero's third and best installment of his Dead saga is the perfect example of what in my eyes a horror film is supposed to be.

Day of the Dead is a relentlessly unsettling and intensely dramatic portrait of what happens when the fragile structure of civility and common decency is torn asunder. A truly compelling study of humanity being at it's most inhumane during times when goodwill and unity are desperately needed. Bolstered with unforgettably shocking fx by Savini, an amazing cast and pitch-perfect direction by Romero, Day of the Dead is a classic that will continue to stand the test of time.

Which do you prefer?

I like Dawn the best, but Day is more from my childhood. I was way to little to remember Dawn, so Day has a special place in my heart. Scared me so bad it isn't funny. I remember being 9 or 10 and staying up all night watching Day and Evil Dead 2 over and over. Why the hell my parents allowed this I will never know. My 10 year old has never seen an R rated movie and never will if I have my way about it. Day is so great though. Hell I don't know. Nevermind.
That is exactly why you, like me, are demented. I seen Evil Dead and Fulci's Zombie when I was like seven and I never looked back!
Thats a really tough question for diehard Romero fans. I am still a little confused with myself here. I would say I favor Dawn because it was a more important, impacting film. It turned the black n white ghouls of Night into your next door neighbors with color and Savini's splatter.
But I feel Day is actually a better film. The gore is more realistic and the humor blacker than black. When the figures of authority become scarier then the zombies you know you're in trouble. Things become very primitive much like in the book Lord of the Flies. I enjoyed that aspect very deeply.

being a die hard Romero fan myself. as long as his name is connected to it, i am down with it. Romero rocks!
I hate even calling it a remake. I bet he did that movie cause he got to play a zombie in it. Dude has bills to pay as well I am sure. We need to come up with a new name for it on this site so we all know what movie we are talking about. Any ideas?
Zoms crawling sideways down the walls? Pure rubbish. And I have a high tolerance for bad movies.
i will be the first to admit that they took some things to the extreme in some cases. but over all it was a good film to watch. if at best, it gave us all something to think on when it comes to zombie movement. will they be runners or shamblers? so you cant really boo the hell out of it. if anything, thank them for the food for thought. i do. lol. anyway the splatter in it was good to.
I LOVE DAWN OF THE DEAD 1978!
i must admit that since this discussion was posted that i been thinking harder then normal on the films. as i did so i found myself very challenged as to make a favorite of one over the other. reason being that i am a die hard Romero fan and all his work will be a big hit for me and i will want all of them on disk for my collection reguardless of how good or bad they "bombed" at a movie release. so for my money, they both rock!! lol.
Dawn Of The Dead is my favorite. Day Of The Day is so DARK and DEPRESSING it caught the raw emotions of people living in the Dead world.
have you ever read the orinial script for Day, it truly would have been an epic
YES! He tried to recreate it somewhat with Land of the Dead.
