i say infection. i think a virus will somehow reanimate the dead and the whole ball will start that way and mushroom from there.

A virus that mutated could be one possibility.

another way i feel it can happen is radiation like in the original Night of the Living Dead. in it, Cosmic Radiation was said to be the cause. but for the most part, i feel it will be viral. i mean look at what we eat, drink, even have shot into us when we are sick. what combination of all that crap will one day "flip that magic switch" if you will for it to happen. its just a matter of time.

Maybe a variation on rabies. Or a mad cow strain thats transmitted to humans. That would be great if fast food actually did kill us all(not day by day).

It would have to be more supernatural. It also sounds like your question is whether they are dead or alive. I don't believe in a rational explanation to the dead walking like in a Romero film. But in say... 28 Days Later I think any one of you could be correct. It won't matter much at that point though will it? Hope we still have internet so we can chat about it afterwards.

the 28 Days Later kind of zombie i think is one of the ones that will make sence that we will face being viral. but i don't rule out the radiation thing either. be it cosmic like Night of the Living Dead or nuclear. radiation is a strong and unpredictable thing. and the chemicals in the things we wear, eat, and drink in my opinion make a good wild card in the game.

Does it really matter? Any zombie I see is a dead one(or re-dead for that matter), whether its viral, cosmic, supernatural voodoo or they have radiation spewing out of their rectums.
