This Creepy Art Turns ‘Pokemon’ Characters into Nightmare Monsters

Gotta catch ’em all. And then kill them. With fire.

Nintendo has another massive hit on their hands with Pokemon Go, an app game that is quite literally sweeping the nation. Just this week, shortly after the launch, the app registered more active users than social platforms like Twitter and Tinder, and if you leave the comfort of your home right now and venture outside, there’s a good chance you’ll see at least a few people out there hunting for colorful little monsters. How will you know? They’ll be holding their phones out in front of them and shambling around like Romero zombies.

Then again, that’s kinda been the societal norm for years now.

It’s hard not to poke fun at the craze, but the reality is that Pokemon Go is getting people out of the house, forcing them to explore their cities and towns in a way they probably never have before. And it’s also bonding people in the way that only silly entertainment really can. It’s both a simple game and yet so much more than a game, and you need only read any news website right now to see just how much of an impact it’s having on our society. Hell, one teen girl even found a dead body while out hunting for Pokemon characters!

Why are we talking about Pokemon here on Bloody? There’s a good reason, I promise.

Artist Gavin Mackey has a passion for reimagining beloved Pokemon characters in his own vision, and the fun project has resulted in some truly nightmarish pieces of art that we wanted to share with you while we’re in the midst of the Pokemon Go mania that’s impossible to escape at the moment. Mackey’s art turns Darkrai into a James Wan villain and Mr. Mime into something out of Guillermo del Toro’s worst nightmares, and characters like Lickitung, Gengar, Vaporeon, and Wobbuffet have also been given the “nightmare fuel” treatment.
