THE KARAMBIT! The new style combat knife.
As of late. I been studying new forms of fighting styles and the knives involved with them. Reason being that ZOMBIES wont be the only thing we will need to fight from time to time. The knife of my personal choice has thus far been the KARAMBIT. The design alone makes this knife a very formidable weapon to face in practiced hands. There are many different styles of karambit out there. But this is the one I personally chose because of the full tang construction. I chose the Honshu Karambit. I currently have two of them in my B.O.B. for the z-poc. One has a shoulder sheath and the other a boot/belt clip sheath. Both are razor sharp after I got done with them. And both I endorse highly. Below are some of the training videos I been studying to make optimal use of these karambit knives.

I've seen those before united cutlery sells a version right in m48 line if I'm not mistaken also the knife from the last fight seen in taken 1. it's a cool combat knife no doubt about it. but i like all my knives to be multy purpose. reason being if i lose everything but that knife i want to know it can field dress a dear, shop firewood, widdle wood, cut rope and million other chores you will need a knife to do in the apocalypse. sorry it's all the Dave Canterbury I've watched. it would be good for a lot of those task but no all of them.

lol. i swear by these. and you are right. they do have them in the M48 line. its in the M48 Apocalypse line to be exact. but these can be used for lots of things other then just fighting. they can be used for cutting rope, cord, whittle wood, and other cutting tasks. i dont know of any knife that i would use to chop wood with. and if i dont miss my guess. there was a YouTube video that demonstrated how to use one to process game with. but the M48 or Honshu Karambits are the best in the line because of being one solid piece of steel. most of them you see are either small neck knives or pocket folders. and i just dont feel i would want to put my faith in those. reason being either the size or the fact that they do fold making the joint the weakest point in them. and the fact that the Honshu Karambit can be bought with a shoulder sheath or a boot/belt sheath gives you lots of ways to wear them. another reason i like them so well. lol.

i've seen knives batoned to cut fire wood or i should say proses I'm not doubting it's a good knife but i don't know i guess i just like profile of a regular knife better. still i might pic up a zombie fighter one as i remember budk calling them.

lol. i hear ya on being used to a regular knife profile. but as i thought more about it. i got to looking into different knives, their styles and uses, and how much damage they can cause in the least amount of effort. this style has had a awesome reputation and a very rich history. hard to believe it started out as a gardening tool. but then again look at most aisan made weapons. if they were not based in farming tools. they were based in tools used by the Shaolin monks of China and Japan and improved upon from there. and if used right. the techniques used to fight the living with this knife might just be useful against the undead to.

well they had no choice way back when sword's were the only real wepon it was made illegal for peasants to have them so they had no choice but use their farming tools as weapons. that was the birth of the ninjas as we know them. and i don't know about fighting zombies with these. I'm unfamiliar with the fighting style but the blade looks like its made for slashing rather then stabbing which is what you would need to finish a zombie off. sure you could cut the tendons such as the Achilles or the back of the knee wrist under the arm bit and disable a zombie and by time. but it's a very up close and personal weapon which you never want to get into with a zombie if you can avoid it. now you could maybe use the side sweep motion to get behind and trike at the neck but i just don't think such a light weapon will have enough force to sever the spine. and something to remember is the smell of a zombie. ever let meat rot in your fridge. even a little bit can stink up the whole fridge. now imagine standing arms with away or closer to over hundred pounds of rotting meat thats been left outside. not good, even with a nose clip the more distance you can put between you and a zombie the better. just my two cents!

true enough that you dont want to get in close to a zombie. but there will be times when it is unavoidable. for instance you are checking out a building for goodies. your in a tight hallway and low and behold out of a room up ahead a zombie comes out. if you are past the PSR (Point of Safe Return) when it comes to getting out unscathed. then you will have to fight. and we all know in a narrow hallway that there is little room for fancy combat moves and clubs or swords. so then you are down to just shear survival instinct and your knife. now i do realize that the karambit may not look like much. but the two pictured above have a solid blade equal to that of a good bowie knife. that is another reason that won me on the Honshu. so once you do what you need to to disable the hands from grabbing you. a good point to the base of the skull will finish it off. when i first bought one. sure i had my doubts. after all if it does not pass my inspections. they are not carried by me much less sold. even the smallest of throwing knives can make a kill on a zombie if you use it right. so when i got my first order of karambits in. and i bought several styles by the way. the only ones to pass my standards are the ones pictured above.

well obviously shit happens and you may have to fight a zombie close quarters but thats all the more reason to have a blade that can kill in the first shot. you don't want to have to waste time disabling the limbs just to get a shot at the back of head. you want to be able to get right into the brain and for that you need a long sleek blade profile. because if you fucking around with that first zombie who's to say another isn't shambling it's way upon you. now a lot of people say ice pick is best for this but they aren't made the way they were. most I've come across are junk and bend with the littlest of effort. for getting right up into the brain pan you want something like this.
bot as versatile as your knife but it's a one stop drop for everything zombie.

there is a stronger alternative to the ice pick. go to the wood working tool section of Lowe's or what you have in your area. when there. look up WOOD AWLS.
they are tougher then an ice pick because they are designed to take hits from hammers on hard woods like ebony, ash, or oak. way more suitable then ice picks.

there is something i forgot to point out as well. its about the sai. sais as a rule dont have a sharp blade for cutting. they are rounded for the most art and come to a point at the top. and the reason for them being round is so they dont break when they come in contact with a sword blade in impact. now there are a few out there with an octagonal shaft. but even those dont have a sharp blade. the ones that were made for TMNT were custom. that makes the difference. but whether the sai be round or octagonal on the shaft. the point can still punch through a skull. and also when it comes to a CQC fight and a zombie. you still to a degree need to disable the arms or hands to get in close with any bladed melee weapon in a CQC situation. that is a given. another thing you may wanna rethink is going through the skull itself. you could easily lodge your weapon into it and make it a real bear to remove it. when you can. go for the eyes. the orbital bone is no thicker then a piece of construction paper. as a result it will shatter easier and makes the weapon no matter what it is, easy to remove. that is also what makes the the base of the skull such a sweet spot when behind a zombie. because all that separates the skull from the spinal column is a layer of cartilage about a half inch thick tops. thrust your weapon straight and you sever the spine. up at an angle and its straight to the brain. lol.

wood awls wood be good i'm just wondering if they have the length as rule any blade or spike like this should be long enough to go all the way through the brain no mater where it's thrust in like say under the jaw. thats why i like the sai are usually round spike i just did the video cause it showed my point and it's fucking cool as hell. round works better for stabbing and should be easier to pull out two as its a smooth surface. especially if its a graduated rod meaning its thicker at the base and narrows at the tip. that way the whole you make will be bigger then part of blade you have to pull out making it very easy. as for dealing with the hands thats why i like to have my left arm, my non-dominant arm fully armored. something like a medieval gauntlet and some Kevlar gloves. that way i can use my for like of a better term shield arm to knock the zombies arms to away which will also turn it's body giving me a shot at the side of the head where the temple is weakest and bobs your uncle. better then going to eye cause it's a small target to hit in the spur of the moment and if you miss your gonna hit the eye socket it's self which is pretty hard and the zombies gonna have an easy time biting your arm. always best to attack from behind or the side i agree with you. avoid the fatal funnel.

actually that eye socket is not very hard. like i said before. its no thicker then a piece of construction paper. rather easy to shatter. i will admit it is a smaller target and hard to hit. but being with each excursion had with the undead. an attack can be refined quite a bit. i tend to invest in med school skulls to practice with when it comes to head and eye shots and my melee weapons. so i cant help but feel that with the right amount of practice. one can be ready in advance that way. all i would have to do is watch my target to anticipate its move if i use a knife of any kind. but thats why i invested in a good spear. the M48 Spear.
