Lose Your Mind in Christine’s “Howling Wave” Video

We featured French synth electronic duo Christine late last year and now they’re back with a brand new video that is perfect to get you excited for Friday and the weekend!

“Howling Wave” is directed by Alexis Benoit and, “…embarks us on the crazy pursuit of an ideal where the insanity of the moment, consumption and impatience break us free from all bearings and values.” The song comes from the band’s upcoming 1st album, which should be released in early 2017.

It’s all about a visual metaphor on the pursuit of an ideal, a non-existent dream. A quest that we’ve all experienced at least once in our lives. But the story only gets deeper as the clip goes. It illustrates the way in which determination can trigger forwardness. How fantasy can be transformed. And most of all, the distortion that can exist between such fantasy and reality.

“A crowd lightly dances in slow-motion. At its heart, Tristan and Ophelia stare right into each other’s eyes. He’s tall, swarthy and lean. She’s a brunette, with long hair and luscious lips. Fiercely luscious…”

Tristan flashes all his fantasies on Ophelia. But she only exists through his own eyes. That’s why her image is continually transformed to fit his own desire. He’s an ever-dissatisfied being, changing his mind as soon as he gets want he wants.

“I thought I wanted Ophelia and desired her above all things, but when I kiss her, the way I see her utterly changes. But even so, I keep on pursuing this absurd fantasy.”

The climax is reached at the very end of the video, when his obsessive fantasy ends up eating him away, surrounding and devouring him…
