Kevin Tancharoen envisioned his short, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, with a Hollywood adaptation in mind. While Warner Bros. didn’t quite see it his way, they did fund what eventually became known as the first season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. The highly successful web series blends the supernatural with a realistic re-imagining of the Mortal Kombat franchise. And we’ve got the first look at season two!

The second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy started filming back in December and nobody has seen a thing, but thanks to Ian Anthony Dale, who plays Scorpion in both Legacy and Rebirth, we have our first look at the cast in full costume.

The image itself is from Kevin’s Instagram page and it spread after he posted it via Twitter. It features Harry Shum Jr., Casper Van Dien, Brian Tee and Mark Dacascos, to name a few. This look at everyone is pretty damn cool and a fair representation of how the characters would look in real life. One notable name in the mix is Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who fans will recognize as the original Shang Tsung from 1995′s Mortal Kombat. His work will be unrelated to the continuity of Tancharoen’s series, but for us Mortal Kombat fan boys it’s going to be a big draw to see how he does on the web series.

As for what to expect from the new season, a press release with IGN last month said the series “…will uncover the rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. ” Co-written by Tancharoen, Josh Baizer and Marshall Johnson and directed by Tancharoen, the first footage will debut worldwide on February 17th at the 2013 Streamy Awards and will air exclusively on Machinima.
