DIY Fishing Gear: PVC Chum Tube

I had an extra length of 2" PVC pipe and decided to make a chum tube. A useful tool for attracting fish, it is also easy to make.

Here is what you need:

• PVC tube (I had a 9" length of 2" tube-- you can go bigger or smaller)
• PVC endcap and screw top end (Under $3 at the Home Depot)
• JB Weld
• A drill and bits
• Some line
• A ring and hook
• Two washers
• 220 grit sandpaper

Here is what to do:

• Drill a 1/4" hole in both the endcap and screw top
• Sand the holes
• Tie loops through the holes attaching hardware and using washers inside
• Drill several 3/8" holes randomly in the tube avoid the ends
• Lightly sand the holes in the tube
• Mix the JB Weld and lightly coat the inside of the endcap and screw top base
• Slide the tube into each end and wipe excess JB Weld
• Allow curing

That's it! Should take about 30-40 minutes. Cost should be under $10-- I had most on hand.

Fill it with chum and attach a line (Use weights on the ring if needed).
