10 Unique Mother’s Day Gift Ideas: Help Mom Prepare for Anything!

Help Mom Prep: 10 Unique Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

by James Hubbard, MD, MPH

I’ve always had a little trouble deciding on gifts. I want them to be special, unique, and something that makes the recipient say, “Ooh, how great is this.” Of course, it doesn’t help that I wait until the last minute to start looking.

Yes, maybe your Mother’s Day gift always includes taking her out to eat or cooking for her at home. Maybe flowers and a card. Perhaps she likes that routine (mothers usually appreciate just about anything from their children, if it’s done out of love). But in case you want to add a little extra this year, I asked a few of my prepper friends for some ideas—gifts that say you did a little thinking. And who knows. Perhaps you’ll get an “Ohh, how great is this” out of her this year.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for Canners, Preppers, and More

Lisa Bedford at TheSurvivalMom.com has a popular book aptly called Survival Mom: How to Prepare Your Family for Everyday Disasters and Worst-Case Scenarios ($12.25). My wife especially loves it.

Canning equipment is a great Mother’s Day gift idea, and Sharon Peterson ofSimplyCanning.com has written the print book Simply Canning: Survival Guide to Safe Home Canning ($19.30). It’s especially good for the beginning home canner. Then there’s Sharon’s Pantry Journal ($12.99, PDF e-book)—a type of organizational tool that even a veteran canner may not have. Or you can buySimply Canning as an e-book and add The Pantry Journal at a great combo price ($19.99).

Preparedness Planner & Record Keeper ($19.99) from Jennifer atAreWeCrazyOrWhat.net is great for anyone who wants to be better organized with their food storage, bug-out bags, and other preparedness equipment, keeping all the inventory rotated so it won’t become out-of-date.

If your mom’s into simple do-it-yourself home projects, she may enjoy The Prepper’s Pocket Guide: 101 Easy Things You Can Do to Ready Your Home for a Disaster ($12.95), by Bernie Carr at ApartmentPrepper.com. It’s chock-full of information that’s useful whether you’re a full-blown survivalist or just want to be prepared.

Of course, Mom surely needs a copy or three of my portable book Living Ready: Pocket Manual: First Aid ($12.99). Like Bernie’s book, it’s small and can fit in a car, bag, or backpack, or on a shelf. To make it small I packed the medical in and left the fluff out.

survival-medicine course is a good idea. For example, if Mom’s planning a trip to Alaska or lives there, there’s Solace of Safety, a new school my daughter Beth, a flight paramedic and former wildland firefighter, has launched in Anchorage.

Tiffany at ImperfectlyHappy.com suggests a special Mother’s Day Gift Set of essential oils ($46.67) from doTERRA. It’s available in the United States and Canada. Click here, select your country, and search “Mother’s Day.”

Check out my new store for lots of survival-medicine supplies Mom might need. Does she have a good stock of the basics? Or, if she’s a veteran prepper, maybe she has some intermediate supplies on her wish list.
